Small Groups

Small groups have been around since the original 12 disciples walked with Jesus. As the leader of a small group, Jesus modeled and taught his followers to go out into the world and love others as he loved them.

We gather in nearby homes, parks, coffee shops, or wherever to share our lives and support one another with friendship, prayer, and Bible study. It is a safe place to simply be yourself, to experience authentic relationships with real people, and where it's okay to bring your joys and your disappointments. We are friends helping friends follow Christ.

Why Small Groups?

George Gallup has said, “Americans are among the loneliest people in the world.” Even though people may live in a large city, work at a successful company, and attend church, they still feel alone. The volume of acquaintances isn’t the problem. People are acquainted with many people, but they are known by none. Being married does not exempt someone from the emptiness associated with isolation. This is precisely why we offer small groups at Quest Community Church. People need authentic relationships with people they know and who know them beyond just as an acquaintance.

What Does a Small Group at Quest Look Like?

There are many different shapes and forms a small group can take on and we want to encourage people to get involved in a group and communicate more and more about the range of groups that are possible to start. Discipleship can take place anywhere, anytime if we have that as our goal. Jesus did.

Some groups primarily focus on being together in community. They place a high emphasis on relationships within the group. People might get together to discuss shared interests or personal issues. Spiritual development comes with time as they get to know each other better or when “life happens” to someone in the group. These groups may often begin with 2-3 individuals or couples.

Other groups’ primary purpose for meeting is to learn or better understand subject matter that is of mutual relevance and interest to group members such as Bible studies, discussion groups, book studies, prayer groups, and worship groups. Some groups primarily exist for the purpose of accomplishing a task such as outreach or service groups, such as working in a food pantry, prison ministry, or hospital ministry.

And still other groups are made up of people who admit they need change in their lives and are willing to subject themselves to the accountability and support of other like-minded people such as support and recovery groups and marriage enrichment groups. Our desire is for people to connect with other people where they can share life together in a way that is helpful and relevant to their life and to find support and encouragement within the context of relationships.
